What Is Employee Engagement

Employee engagement is a human resources (HR) concept that describes the level of enthusiasm and dedication a worker feels toward their job. Engaged employees care about their work and about the performance of the company, and feel that their efforts make a difference. An engaged employee is in it for more than a paycheck and may consider their well-being linked to their performance, and thus instrumental to their company's success. (Smith, 2022)

 

Employee Engagement for Employees

As an employee if you are getting up in the morning with the enthusiasm to work, with some brilliant ideas to get the work done and if you truly feel that you are part of the company and you have the desire to achieve company goal, well, that is Employee Engagement.

 

Employee engagement is about understanding one’s role in an organisation, and being sighted and energised on where it fits in the organisation’s purpose and objectives. Engaged organisations have strong and authentic values, with clear evidence of trust and fairness based on mutual respect, where two-way promises and commitments – between employers and employees – are understood and fulfilled. (Engage for success,2021)

 

Employee Engagement for Employers

If the employees are enthusiastic and passionate towards organisational goals and organisation as a whole, and their positive attitudes and behaviours enhance the business outcome, it is about Employee Engagement.

 

Employee engagement is about our employees feeling pride and loyalty working for our organisation, going the extra mile to finish a piece of work. It is about drawing on our employees’ knowledge and ideas to improve our products and services, and be innovative about how we work. Employee engagement is about drawing out a deeper commitment from our employees so fewer leave, sick absence reduces, accident rates decline, conflicts and grievances go down, productivity increases. (Engage for success,2021)

 

Conclusion

In conclusion, Employee Engagement is most crucial in any organisation. Because no matter how strategic your vision and mission in the company is, if your employees are not in to it, you may not be able to drive to the desired goal. Engaged employees will create a better work culture, strong customer relationships and ultimately a positive impact on company profits.

Which help to increase the productivity level, increase job satisfaction and motivation towards the work. However it also come with a cost. The approaches of Employee engagement, increase the cost training and implementing, it increase potential security issues, communication failures.

However, the cost disengaged employees make is more due to high employee turnover, customer dissatisfaction, and low productivity etc...

  2. Engagement is one of the main concepts of human resources management in employee motivation. Mainly there are three levels of engagement, actively engage, not engage & actively disengage. I think you should describe the ways that engagement levels are measured in the organization, basically annual engagement survey, pulse survey, one-on-one meetings can be used. By these surveys and activities, you should be able understand the level of engagement of the team & take appropriate action on those who are not engage and actively disengage employees to make them as the actively engage employees.

  5. A concise yet descriptive article which defines the topic clearly from both ends, the employees as well as employers perspective. I agree with Janaka, that it needs to address this aspect further to illustrate the importance of employee engagement within the organization.

    I also believe that the prevailing culture within the organization plays a major role in inducing employee participation and promoting a sense of belonging. When employees feel that the company takes good care of them and their voices are being heard (e.g. through an open door policy), it is natural for employee engagement levels to be high.

  7. Grate article & in current context, employee engagement is key to success business, a person requires other people to function; he cannot do it alone. You won't want to settle down and work if the office is entirely empty. An individual becomes unmotivated and distributes negativity in an isolated setting. People must feel at ease with one another in order to cooperate as a team and achieve a shared objective.
