Benefits of Employee Engagement

Every leader expects to have motivated workers under their direction. They desire a group of motivated workers, to put it another way. However, why exactly is this so significant? What advantages do engaged employees enjoy?

Employee engagement is influenced by numerous factors. A few indicators of engagement include things like how content employees are at work, how close they feel to their coworkers and management, and how frequently they feel recognized and valued for their actions at work. (DeBara and St-Aubin, 2022)

1.  Good Team Performance

 

Employee Engagement is not only beneficial at an individual level but also improves performance as a team. Because a bunch of motivated individuals will perform at a high level all the time. Ultimately this will benefit the organization as a whole when it comes to achieving the corporate goal.

 

2.  High productivity of Employees

 

Engaged Employees are highly efficient and produce quality work. Because they are emotionally into the work they do and have the real feeling of achieving the team’s and company’s goals. As a result, productivity level increases.

 

3.  Achievement of team objectives

 

The main desire of any organization is to achieve the set targets. For this, employee engagement plays a big role. Because engaged employees have faith in the company’s vision and will work towards it.

 

4.  Less workplace stress

 

Disengaged employees tend to feel not belong to the workplace and are unsupported. And same will increase the stress level of the employee.

On the other hand, engaged employees tend to understand the stress level and when will it pass the unhealthy level. And it is easier to manage their stress level because they know where and how important they are in the organisation.

 

5.  Lower the risk of burnout

 

Employee burnout, which the World Health Organization defines as an “occupational phenomenon… resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed,” is one of the biggest issues facing today’s workforce.

When employees reach the point of burnout, it has serious consequences – for them, your team, and your organization. Burnout is bad news. But the upside? By keeping your employees engaged with their work and monitoring stress levels on your team, you’re helping significantly lower their risk for burnout. (DeBara and St-Aubin, 2022)

 

6.  Less employee absenteeism

 

Regular skips at work is a burning issue in today’s world. Due to this reason, the company cannot make it to the deadlines. Also, the other employees will have to bear the workload of the absent employee.

But if employee engagement is in place, absenteeism will be reduced as the employees enthusiastically engage in all the work they do.

 

7.  Employee retention and lower turnover rate

 

For the higher performance of the team, there should be a strong relationship between the team members. If the members of the team continuously change, it is very difficult to have that bond and constant focus on a specific goal.

But in an engaged workplace, employees are less likely to leave as they are satisfied and committed to their objectives.

 

Conclusion

 

Employee Engagement plays a crucial role and creates benefits for the organization as well as for the team. Also, it is like a cycle that benefits enhance Employee Engagement and Engagement brings benefits back. In an engaged workplace, employees will perform as ambassadors of the company who will bring in customers as well as new employees without any cost.

Hi Thilini, Employee engagement is crucial for achieving business success, as per Gallup's research which found that engaged employees tend to be 21% more productive than their disengaged peers (Harter, 2017). Moreover, such employees are more likely to remain with the company in the long run, which can lead to cost savings from reduced turnover and a more stable workforce (Society for Human Resource Management, 2021). To foster engagement, organizations can implement various initiatives such as regular feedback sessions and recognition programs, which can not only enhance employee morale but also have a positive impact on the bottom line.

  3. Hi Thilini, your blog post provides a good introduction to the topic of employee engagement and highlights several key benefits, well done.

    My focus area has been to look at the way SHRM has changed post Covid and as such employee engagement has become incredibly important. However different aspects of engagement may be more critical than others, for example, Kewalramani (2023) notes that in the post-Covid workplace it is important for an organisation to have a culture of recognition, in order to drive employee engagement. Kewalramani further goes on to say that research shows that high performing teams have a praise to criticism ratio of 5:1, meaning they give each other 5 times more positive feedback than criticism. Praising employees keeps them engaged with the organisation as well as their peers and the managerial hierarchy.
